Saving Pets with Letters?

Apr 15, 2010

Writing a letter may end up saving a life or two thanks to a new Postal Service Campaign.  The United Stated Postal Service® recently announced the Stamps to the Rescue campaign, a new social awareness campaign that focuses on providing awareness of the issues facing animal shelters across the United States along with promoting pet adoptions.  Millions of animals enter shelters each year, and unfortunately many of them are euthanized due to limited space and overcrowding.  By adopting shelter animals, and spaying and neutering our animals, we can help to prevent this growing problem.

The campaign includes Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet stamps which feature pictures of actual shelter cats and dogs. The stamps were unveiled on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month.  Ellen, who is co-owner of a holistic pet care company, also announced her company will be providing one million meals to shelter animals to support the campaign.

While the stamps feature cats and dogs, it is important to remember that many other species of animals find their way into shelters across the country each year. Everything from birds to rabbits, and everything in between, can be found in shelters and rescues and need homes just as much as their cat and dog friends!

The stamps are going to be released on April 30th and are available for pre-order through the Stamps to the Rescue website. Check out the site for more information and help do your part to save the life of a shelter animal today!
