| Originally, guinea pigs came from the Andes Mountains in South America. Guinea pigs are not really pigs at all. They are rodents like squirrels and hamsters. Oddly enough, guinea pig babies are actually called "puppies." It is believed that the guinea pig received its name from sailors that used to sell them for one guinea (money that Britain used in the past), and they thought the guinea pig's whistling sounded like a pig squealing. Before that, guinea pigs were kept by the Incas in the 16th century. Like their human owners, guinea pigs cannot produce their own Vitamin C. You should provide a Vitamin C supplement to your guinea pig's diet on a daily basis. They also love to just lounge around in a Cuddl-E-Cup Bed. Guinea pigs are very friendly animals. They greet other guinea pigs by touching noses. It won't take long for your pet guinea pig to get to know you. If you take very good care of your guinea pig, it might even treat you to some "popcorning." This is a wiggly, jumping, dance guinea pigs do when they are very happy. |
