| Reptiles, fish, and hermit crabs all make fascinating pets. It's important to remember, though, that all reptiles, crabs, and fish are cold-blooded. That doesn't make them mean, but it means you have to keep them warm. If you can do that, then you can watch tiny anole lizards change color while they're hiding on their Hanging Garden plants or chasing a cricket for a snack. Anoles, like their bigger cousin iguanas, communicate by bobbing their heads and flaring a skin flap called a "dewlap." Can you figure out what they're saying? You can help hermit crabs, the most stylish of crustaceans, pick out a fancy new shell to wear. Then it can show off its new shell to all of the other hermit crabs on the beach you create with your Little Crab Kit. Hermit crabs have even been known to swap shells with other hermit crabs, so maybe you can witness your pets "making a deal." You can watch the beautiful Siamese fighting fish put on a spectacular display when you place a mirror in front of it, and it sees its own reflection. He doesn't know that he's trying to fight himself! When he's not showing off, he can relax in his Aqua-tarium decorated with extravagant Ice Crystals scattered on the floor of his aquatic world. |
