Exotic and fun, ferrets are nature's clowns
This social small animal loves to be a member of the family and is known for their curiosity and fun-loving personality. The name ferret comes from the Latin "furonem" which means "thief". That explains why Ferrets enjoy stealing and hiding objects, part of their natural nesting instincts.
Like most animals, the right care makes a Ferret healthy and happy. Ferrets like energetic play, so they'll enjoy all the fun, exercise, and toys they can get. They even like to takes walks on a leash. Despite their great energy, they're also heavy sleepers, enjoying long hours of napping. Ferrets' slightly musky odor can be easily controlled with shampoos and sprays.
Ferrets are very smart and must be properly secured safe inside their homes. Like cats, Ferrets can be potty trained to use a Hi-Corner Litter Pan. Feeding is easy and fun, you just need the right food. Requiring a diet rich in protein and fat to fuel their high metabolism, they do well with commercial Ferret food products. Skip the sweets (raisins, peanut butter, and bananas).
Your pet Ferret could be any number of colors: black sable, white (albino), champagne, chocolate, cinnamon, or dark-eyed white (DEW). Ferrets usually have one of four color patterns: standard, solid, roans, and point (Siamese). Some people believe the Egyptians kept Ferrets as pets before they ever had cats as pets. Aristotle wrote about Ferrets, and Caesar used them for hunting.
Ferrets can weigh between two and five pounds, and are 12 to 24 inches long. They live from 7 to 9 years and are perfect for owners aged 14 and up.
